Your blog was poignantly written. Watching a loved one suffer is the toughest of all. But I have to admit that saying that prayer a child scared the bejessus out me as I felt each night was meant to be my last. Funny how you see things as a child.

What a nice thought -- to say that prayer over somebody.

That was a wonderful post, Glenn. I am a Nurse and I work with several patients with Alzheimer's as well as other debilitating illnesses. Funny you should say 'the bedtime prayer'. Several years ago, I was with a woman who was in her last hours and she asked me to say a prayer for her, and that was the only one I could think of. She smiled and said, "that was perfect." I'll never forget that.

I understand, but don't let that worry rule your life. When you worry too much, it takes time away from the good times you could be enjoying. Thank you for your comment.

Very heartfelt, Glenn. I think that we all hope to hold onto our dignity in the end, but very few of us are allowed to. My grandfather suffered from Lou Gehrig's disease, and it is a truly horrible way to die. I live in fear of one day suffering that same fate.

What a terrific thing to do! I applaud you, Glenn--and your kids, and grandson, as well. They will probably become Reading Buddies one day, too.

Two years ago I founded Take Your Child to a Bookstore Day, to foster in children both a love of reading, and that special experience of being in a place surrounded by books and book lovers. For this third year I have a special dream of somehow giving grants to children such as the ones you mention--for whom going to bookstores isn't an everyday experience; perhaps they've never even been to one before.

I would love to share thoughts about this if you ever get a moment.

Thanks for the post.

Thank you, sir... truly appreciated. My effort is so small compared to the teachers who do so much to insure our children are properly educated.
